The McIntosh MC402 is the kind of amplifier that makes you stop mid-track and just listen. Four hundred watts per channel delivered through McIntosh's handcrafted Output Autoformers — a topology that was genuinely unique to this model — and you can feel it in every passage: an effortless low-end authority, a midrange warmth that breathes without thickening, and dynamics that open up with total composure under load. The quad-differential circuit cancels distortion at the source, and the result is an unusually dark, settled backdrop that puts the music front and center. Iconic blue peak meters pulsing in the dark, fiber-optic 3D glass panel, 110 pounds of Binghamton-built conviction. Winner of The Absolute Sound's Editor's Choice Award in 2005. One of the most complete solid-state amplifiers McIntosh has ever built.

Liner Notes
Producing a minimum 400 watts per channel in stereo, 800 watts in mono, the MC402 delivers power that is fully balanced from input to speaker output. The extraordinary quad-differential design of the MC402 actually consists of four complete amplifier circuits. Each channel contains two amplifier circuits, each the mirror image of the other, whose outputs are combined in the unique McIntosh Output Autoformer® resulting in totally balanced operation from input to speaker output and the cancellation of virtually all noise and distortion.
