Pioneer was founded by Nozomu Matsumoto in 1938 in Tokyo as a radio and speaker repair shop.
In December 1953 Mr. Nozomu Matsumoto succeeded in developing the first domestic dynamic speaker made of original parts. It was named A-8 and marketed in Japan under the Pioneer brand. It later became the origin of the HiFi speaker.
In 1960, Pioneer was the first to develop headphones in Japan as an audio maker and released Pioneer’s first headphone (SE-1). Also aimed to reproduce the original sound in headphones.
In 1962, true to its name, Pioneer introduced the PSC-5A, the world’s first separate stereo overturned the common sense that “stereo set is one-body box including speakers” of the time and set the layout of the stereo free.
