The Fisher 400 is one of the crown jewels of vintage tube receivers—an early-’60s beauty that packs all the romance of the golden age of hi-fi into one glowing box. With a complement of 7868 output tubes pushing about 28–30 watts per channel, it delivers that unmistakable Fisher house sound: smooth, sweet mids, rich vocals, and a top end that feels silky rather than sharp. The FM tuner section is legendary on its own, with sensitivity and musicality that make radio listening a joy, while the champagne faceplate, brass knobs, and warm dial glow turn it into pure living-room eye candy. Restored and recapped, the Fisher 400 doesn’t just play music—it creates an atmosphere, wrapping every record or broadcast in vintage tube magic.
Fo safety, the cabinet and receiver will ship in two separate boxes.

- The History of Fisher
- ... many people conflate the acquisition with the change in branding, but the trademark request was actually filed by Mr. Fisher in 1965, and held up by other concerns who felt they had the right to use the "Fisher" name. The timing was a happy accident for collectors, who could then quickly discern the age...

- Liner Notes
The new Fisher 400 incorporates on a single chassis a highly sensitive FM multiplex tuner, a master audio control with a full complement of controls and features, and a dual channel, 60 watt power amplifier with ample reserve power for full room volume with any pair of loudspeakers.
Many new advances in the technology of music reproduction have been included in the 400 design.
The front end for example is of the new Fisher Golden Synchrode design, employing a specially developed RF amplifier tube combined with three tuned circuits for maximum selectivity, sensitivity and rejection of unwanted signals.
Three wideband IF stages are used, followed by a radio detector that is linear over an extremely wide range.
The multiplex converter is the superior time-division type, utilising two balanced diode bridges and a synchronous oscillator acting together as electronic switches.
The circuit reduces noise and distortion to the theoretical minimum and achieves the greatest possible stereo separation.
The famous Stereo Beam indicator signals instantly whenever a station transmits a multiplex stereo program.
- Packing
- Prepare to be impressed. We have arguably the best packing process around. We use our InstaPak machine and white open cell foam to build a custom enclosure for your piece that ensures that it's stable and secure. If it is particularly fragile or heavy, we typically opt for private courier delivery. Depending on where you are in the country, that may cost a bit extra. We also take great care to protect the tubes. When sensible, we will pack the tubes to prevent any movement. Other times, we'll individually wrap the tubes and mark their corresponding socket to preserve the bias. You can be confident that your piece will be snug as a bug in a rug.
- Shipping
- This piece ships to the contiguous United States for a flat rate of $200, which includes our packaging and our insurance. Of course, we'll ship anywhere in the world, just drop us a line and we'll give you an estimate – even if you're just curious.
