Crown took one of the cleanest, most transparent preamps around, and made it even cleaner. The IC-150A, released in '76 matched its predecessor in specs, but used even higher quality components in the signal path. The result is nothing short of well, nothing. You'll forget you're running a preamp at all.

- Liner Notes
The Crown IC 150 was a state-of-the-art preamp when it came out in 1971. It offered an unheard level of transparency at that time due to its ultra-low noise levels. The Crown IC 150A was a newer version of the original IC 150 and was regarded as being far better sounding due to the better circuit components used. Crown called the IC 150A an Integrated Circuit Stereo Console because in its day, integrated circuits were the height of technology.
