- Arnold Sugden, the founder of Yorkshire A R Sugden & CO, was deeply involved in the early demonstrations of diagonal-cut recordings for stereo. He was a self-taught mechanical engineer, and eventually had a small factory producing turntables, arms and loudspeakers - all very good quality for the time. Through the late 40's and early 50's, his company produced several versions of 'Craftsman' idler-wheel drive turntables, followed by the BD series belt-drive tables. This company is often confused with J E Sugden, an unrelated business making amplifiers in Cleckheaton, a few miles away.
