Looks can be deceiving. When it was released, this DAC was considered the best you could get under $1500. Perhaps that explains why, to this day, the ADCOM GDA-600 is known as one of the great "sleeper" DAC's. And at this price, don't sleep on this one.

Liner Notes
The GDA-600 Digital to Analog Converter brings you closer to the reality - and to the astonishing potential - of digital sound by controlling the inherent distortions and design compromises evident in most digital sources.
In keeping with a successful "begin with the basics" approach, Adcom's engineers carefully re-thought the power supply used in this exciting new product. Isolated on its own circuit board, it incorporates a bi-directional AC filter, two transformers, seven separate stages and 27 filter capacitors to increase circuit isolation and minimize noise and unwanted interference.
An industry acclaimed Crystal Semiconductor receiver, custom-configured for minimum jitter, forms the front end for conversion circuitry that includes a high speed digital filter and dual selected Burr-Brown 20 bit ladder-type DACs. Each unit's master clock duty cycle is individually computer-calibrated to insure the highest accuracy.
Linear phase anti-imaging filters, 1% metal film resistors and Adcom's proprietary linear gain amplifiers give exceptional analog performance. Again, individual calibration assures minimal DC offset.
The GDA-600's flexibility is assured by four impedance-matched inputs: three S/PDIF inputs (two coaxial, one optical) and an AES/EBU XLR input. A buffered S/PDIF output lets you record entirely in the digital domain.
