Custom Cylinder Speakers // Preowned / Floorstanding / Cherry

These fascinating custom floorstanding speakers take a decidedly unconventional approach to sound reproduction, built around tall cylindrical wood enclosures with upward-firing woofers, cone-shaped acoustic guides, and planar tweeters suspended above. While the exact theory behind the design is unknown, our best guess is that the cone helps guide the woofer’s upper frequencies and midrange toward the center opening, where they integrate with the output of the tweeter while also dispersing sound broadly into the room. Whatever the original builder had in mind, the results are surprisingly convincing: airy, open, and articulate, with a spacious presentation and considerably more low-end weight than their unusual appearance might suggest. The warm wood cylinders, exposed acoustic hardware, substantial black bases, and perforated protective grilles give the pair an experimental, almost sculptural quality. We haven’t identified the original builder or design, but these clearly aren’t conventional box speakers—they’re an intriguing one-off execution of some genuinely interesting acoustic ideas, and they sound every bit as unusual as they look.
