Oppo
OPPO Digital built an almost cult-like following among home audio enthusiasts by creating exceptionally well-made disc players, DACs, headphone amplifiers, and related electronics that delivered high-end performance without the usual high-end attitude. Best known for universal players such as the BDP-95, BDP-105, UDP-203, and flagship UDP-205, OPPO combined excellent video capabilities with surprisingly serious two-channel audio performance, making its machines equally at home spinning Blu-rays, SACDs, CDs, or serving as the digital heart of a stereo system. The design language was clean and purposeful—substantial metal construction, uncluttered controls, and a reassuringly premium feel without unnecessary decoration. Although OPPO Digital stopped producing new products in 2018, its better players remain highly sought after on the used market, particularly the UDP-205, and the brand is still remembered as one of those rare manufacturers that managed to satisfy home-theater fans, music lovers, and audiophiles with the same beautifully engineered box.
